They are a good stick and great for jazz playing as they have a great feel... on the ride particularly.
I wanted a 'different' sound so I bought a new ride, having been using an old 20" ZXT for years, I got my self an Istanbul Agop Signature Series Mel Lewis 21" Riveted Ride and thought I'd try the Pete Erskine Ride sticks.
Because of the different tip on these they do give a much better sound compared to the SD4's that's not to say the SD4's are not ok... they are... but the Erskine sticks have a nicer rebound when playing swing and the 'er' of the '2' & '4' is, or at least feels, more controllable with the Erskine sticks.
Therefore, I will be using the Erskines for all my combo jazz playing. They would be a bad idea if you play rock or pop as they would be too 'light'. But the feel with jazz is superb. Or... it could just be me? :-)
